Duties of a Volunteer

The duties vary to suit individual volunteers who wish to give their time for a great cause.

  • greeting patients and visitors 
  • directing and assisting people to their destination 
  • patient and staff support (excluding hands on care) 
  • comfort and conversation 
  • flower care 
  • errands for patients 
  • library service 
  • bringing a pet to visit patients
  • playing music
  • serving in the Gift Shop
  • providing information about the hospital 
  • directions and maps 
  • anticipating needs
  • other relevant activities.

 

Volunteer Requirements

 

  • A warm friendly personality 
  • Being comfortable approaching people to offer assistance 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Reliability and commitment to the work of the Volunteer service. 
  • Most volunteers are required to commit to a regular schedule (e.g. once a week, once a fortnight or more often) 
  • Complete the training programmes
  • Read and sign required documentation
