Help a Heart

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Every 90 minutes a New Zealander dies from coronary heart disease.
  • New Zealand has one of the highest rates of Rheumatic Heart Disease in the developed world
  • 38% of all deaths in New Zealand are caused by Cardiovascular Disease (heart, stroke & blood vessel disease).
  • 1 in 20 adults has been diagnosed with coronary heart disease; many of these people have to undergo cardiac surgery each year.

Wellington Regional Hospital Cardiologists are among the best in the world and to keep that high standard they need the best equipment to help you and many others who may need their services.

Wellington Hospitals & Health Foundation recognises and appreciates the extent of this major health issue in New Zealand and is raising funds to provide specialist equipment that is unable to be funded by the health system, such as a 3D Cardiac Ultrasound Scanner.

3D Cardiac Ultrasound has established itself overseas as a completely new form of visualising the heart, both for surgeons and cardiologists.  It is a method that has come to stay in modern medicine & one which we would like to see at Wellington Regional Hospital.

With your help, purchasing ‘state of the art’ Cardiology equipment can be made possible and will make a difference in the lives of the many thousands of people in our region with cardiovascular disease.
