Our knitters create beautiful items for newborns in our hospitals, particularly for the very small, vulnerable babies in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit. This is a very important service as these specialised items are not generally for sale in shops.
Bed socks, capes and knee rugs are also lovingly made for our adult patients.
This service was provided by the Wellington Hospital Ladies Auxiliary for nearly 80 years. Recently the Auxiliary retired but many members choose to carry on their work under the Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation as the Knitters, Sewers and Quilters group.
The Hospital Gift Shop also stocks a variety of knitted items for sale, with all profits going back into our hospital programmes to support patient services.
You can create items to be donated to the Neo-Natal Unit. Below are the Little Ones patterns for these creations and you can contact the Volunteer Manager, Trish Lee, in the Foundation office on 04 806 2324 to arrange delivery of wool and collection of finished garments.
The wool has been kindly donated by Woolyarns NZ, a long standing New Zealand company based in Lower Hutt.
