Mothers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Wellington Hospital were delighted to receive individual hand made quilts as personal gifts this Mother's Day.
The quilts, all hand made by Wellington Hospitals & Health Foundation Volunteers, were specially made as Mothers Day gifts. "I think it's lovely. It is a wonderful diversion from the stresses of every day life in the NICU" says Alix Chapman whose twins have been in the NICU since they were born at 31 weeks.
The Foundation Volunteers provide more than 6000 items a year for use in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospital. Items range from tiny bootees, hats, singlets and quilts for the Unit to bed socks and capes for some adult patients.
Some of the Neonatal items are also sold in Foundation's Gift Shop in Wellington Hospital to help fund the project. For any information on being a volunteer please visit our Volunteer page here, or donate to our Hospital Volunteers here.
