Prince William visited the Sick Kids at Wellington Children's Hospital today (19 January 2010) during his first official visit in New Zealand representing the Queen.
The Wellington Hospitals & Health Foundation was delighted to have arranged the Prince's visit. Prince William thrilled the 30 Children who were in hospital with his friendly and warm approach.
The Prince was accompanied by the Prime Minister and Mrs Key and the Minister of Health. His arrival at the hospital was met by about 1000 well wishes who were pleased to meet the Prince and wave to him. The Prince spent almost an hour with all the children in the Hospital and unveiled a plaque to commemorate his visit. Some children in the Hospital had made special cards and gifts for the Prince, including Stella Strawbridge who had a photo of her Granny meeting the Queen in 1968. "Oh this is your Grandmother meeting my Grandmother" Prince William commented as he looked closely at the picture. Bill Day, Chair of the Foundation, said that the Prince's visit was an honour and a real pleasure for all sick kids and staff at the hospital. "Many people will remember Prince William's visit for a long time" he said.
