Special Projects

To support our volunteer programmes in the hospitals, every so often there are some special occasions that make an extra-special difference to patients.

EVENTS

Event Volunteers support our special events as coin collectors, marshals, guides and by undertaking several other tasks at events like the Wellington Christmas Parade, Carols by Candlelight or HOSPI Bike Ride.

MUSICIANS

The Community Trust of Wellington enabled the Foundation to purchase a baby grand piano for Wellington Hospital's atrium.  Volunteers play the piano every day, to the great delight of patients and visitors.

MOTHER'S DAY IN NICU AND DELIVERY SUITES

Mothers with newborn babies in Wellington Hospital's NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and in Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals Delivery Suites on Mothers Day receive a special handmade baby quilt from the Foundation's Volunteer Quilters to take home and keep.

CHRISTMAS DAY IN WELLINGTON'S NICU

Parents in Wellington Hospital's NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) get a big surprise when they arrive on Christmas morning!  Over night, staffs decorate the ward in the Christmas theme.  Babies are dressed in special Christmas outfits handmade by our knitters and each baby receives a Christmas stocking and quilt made by our quilters, along with their very own HOSPI toy to keep.

MATERNITY KNITTING

Every day 12 babies are born in our hospitals and every newborn receives an item knitted by our volunteers.
